o-kun-uh-wih-tsi-gee-wak

Elizabeth is now moving into another phase of life with a podcast project designed to record endangered Indigenous languages such as Mechif. She speaks a northern dialect of Mechif (Michif) where French is used only with nouns. The rest of the language is spoken in the Y dialect of Cree. The podcast project is called ``o-kun-uh-wih-tsi-gee-wak`` which means keepers in the Cree language. The podcasts focus on female Elders from Highway 155, on the northwest side of Saskatchewan. The ladies speak of topics ranging from their childhoods to traditional roles and duties to disappearing values and ways of living, to modern happenings. The recurring theme in the stories of these ladies is the constant attention to family and community; the way they have always taken care of people right up to now. Their lives show the importance of keeping family and community together and how, as women, they were and are so instrumental to this.
