My Grandparents Tell Me Stories
Brandon Kyikavichik is a dedicated cultural historian, storyteller, and language revitalizer from Old Crow, a small, remote village in northern Yukon situated along the Porcupine River. In this series, Brandon tells stories told to him by his grandparents.
The music used in this series is by fiddler, Charlie Peter. Craig Mishler recorded this performance for the Smithsonian Folkways Album 4070. The complete recording is available at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a6jNGd_-IBI&list=RDa6jNGd_-IBI&start_radio=1
Craig Mishler says, "I recorded this video in Fort Yukon on August 23, 1972. That was the summer my wife and daughter were living there in a rented house that belonged to Bill Pfisterer. I borrowed the video recorder from Donald Peter of Rural CAP. The original was shot on half-inch b&w reel-to-reel. In the 1980s I had it dubbed to 3/4 inch cassette, and just last week (May, 2013) dubbed it again to digital. Really happy to share it after all these years!”
